This book will direct you back to the richness of your Christian vocabulary; to take back what is rightfully yours. But be forewarned! We are not after just the words themselves, but the experiences that these words make available to us. This journey requires a believing heart. You will be challenged to rethink how these words have been handled as we examine the misrepresentations that have sought to diminish these treasures. You will find that much too often these words have been used to fortify petty Christian squabbling rather than used to find the gateway into deep fellowship with our God.

Realize as well that ultimately this journey will require friends. You will discover that these words lead you into a realm where God is most fully known in the fellowship of his people. They were not designed for use in an individual pursuit of God where all is dependent on a lone believer finding the keys to living "the abundant Christian life."

As the meaning and truth of these words are uncovered and the depths of what God has given us are seen, your heart will be stirred. This is a journey into God’s own thoughts, a journey that leads to a lifetime of discovery as God takes us deeper and deeper into the glorious mystery that is his son, Jesus Christ.

The journey begins with a willingness to examine these familiar, oft-passed over, culturally trivialized and under-appreciated words and to replace your understanding of them with a higher vision. There’s little to lose. With an estimated three American churches closing down every day and counterfeit religions advancing across our nation, Americans need a new encounter with the living Christ and his people. It starts with what we believe about who God is and the words he uses to communicate his purpose to us.
